Bracken
Recent Anticon signing Bracken's
frontman Chris Adams is better known for his exploits
along with brother Richard as co-founder of Leeds ramshackle
folk cum post rock outfit Hood. This new incarnation
sees him venturing into more electronic terrain, combining
a complex mix of future pop, analogue tape trickery,
avant drone, loose dub flourishes, hip hop pacing and
clattering drums. The project which was first conceived
as the result of a desire to make a "one-off piece
of music with the brief that it had to sound exactly
like a pop band being frozen solid and then shattered
into a million pieces" soon swelled into a new
band in its own right and a first release, 'We Know
About The Need'. It is little wonder that Bracken's
brand of glitchy hip hop with dubstep undertones has
found its way onto the Anticon catalogue; the path was
paved back in the Hood days with collaborations with
label-faves Odd Nosdam, Why? and Dose One on their 2001
release "Cold House". For those diehard fans
amongst you there is a little known-about second release
you can try and get your hands on; "Eno about the
Need". This double-vinyl LP, a collection of experiments,
found sounds and occasional songs, was pressed in an
edition of just one and is being sent around those who
contact the band through their Myspace.
