Kid
Acne
Straight
outta South Yorks comes’ the rap Jonnie Briggs² and
Sheffield’s one-man answer to the Beastie Boys. Romance
Ain¹t Dead is an 11 track short, sharp shock to the
ear drums that’s filled with more bangers than an overstocked
sausage factory and is one of the funniest yet slickest
albums you¹ll have heard all year. Out and out chatty
bastard Kid Acne brings a refreshing attitude and ethos
in his hip-hop - effortlessly combining humorous, often
hilarious, unpretentious lyrics with a couldn¹t give
a flying f*ck attitude, all the while avoiding any unpleasant
odors of irony or novelty. With previous releases on
his own Invisible Spies label and a brace of highly-entertaining,
crowd rocking live shows firmly stowed under his belt,
Kid Acne [aka Ackers, aka Ken Acid, aka Kidney Ache,
aka Eddy Fresh] is now perfectly poised to make the
leap from local underground rap legend to nationwide
musical treasure. A modern day renaissance man, Ackers
is also an acclaimed graffiti artist and illustrator
having exhibited in galleries the world over, created
his own comic book, designed numerous record sleeves,
flyers not to mention an entire T-shirt range for Prada.
Previously one-third of electro outfit Fat Truckers,
Mr Orton other credits and credentials include production
on MIA¹s Mercury Nominated Arular and forthcoming Kala
albums and holding down drum duties for Jarvis Cocker.
The net sonic result and backdrop here is one of raw
and potent stripped-down hip-hop, heavily spiked with
old school rave and punk sounds. The forthcoming Sliding
Doors single is released 3rd September, ahead of Romance
Ain¹t Dead [out 17th September], both through Lex/Rough
Trade/K7!.
