Parts
& Labor
With the experiences of nearly ten years
as a band and two years of vigorous writing and demoing,
Dan Friel (vocals, electronics), BJ Warshaw (vocals,
bass) und drummer Joe Wong are back with a new record
in 2011. Whereas their last release, 2008's acclaimed
"Receivers", saw Parts & Labor blasting off in all directions
and creating collage art from hundreds of fancurated
samples, their fifth album "Constant Future" finds them
crashing back to earth, focusing pointedly on what they
do best: unique, electronic landscapes melded with buzzing,
anthemic hooks. With the help of Dave Fridmann (Flaming
Lips, Mogwai, Sleater-Kinney, MGMT), who co-produced
and mixed the album at his Tarbox Road Studios in Casadega,
NY, their futuristic sound was ultimately transformed
into something massive, beaming, downright nuclear,
comprising reminiscences of musical idols like Sonic
Youth, Lungfish, Fugazi and Wire, as well as synthesized
keyboard riffs, hypnotic percussions and crackling drone-monsters.
The Brooklyn noisepunk outfit, which already toured
with bands like Clinic, Islands, Sonic Boom, I Love
You But I've Chosen Darkness, Spank Rock, An Albatross,
Oneida, Hidden Cameras, Wooden Wand und Matt & Kim,
will, of course, present its newest work on an extensive
tour, following-up the release in March 2011 on JAGJAGUWAR,
to unfurl their dense soundscapes on stage.
