Prefuse 73Prefuse 73

A quick peek at Scott Herren aka Prefuse 73's to-do-list is enough to make anyone dizzy. Does the man ever sleep? This is one of the first questions that spring to mind when thinking about this guy. His various closely linked side-projects such as Delarosa & Arosa and Savath & Savalas show a great breadth of ability which spans hip-hop to electro via jazz and folk. His accomplishments are topped off with his self-founded label Eastern Developments and his work as producer and songwriter in collaboration with amongst others his Spanish girlfriend Eva Puyuelo Muns. He has currently turned his focus once more to Prefuse 73. In April 2009 released his newest masterpiece Everything She Touched Turned Ampexian. Here Herren rejected the idea of straight digital recording and went the much more intensive route of recording to analog Ampex tape, whereby you feel like taking back to the past. Also his last records proved in a big way that the world is actually way too small for his giant musical genius. His multi-talentedness stays shy of all expectations and shows that there needn't necessarily be boundaries in music. "I use beats without any computer trickery. I place opposing sounds in the wrong place, rid myself of the accepted tempo and mess up the time signature of the sequencer so much that you no longer know where the beat begins. When you insert a waltz beat into another rhythm structure, sometimes the craziest things emerge." Any further questions?! You could call it organised chaos. The beats hobble, yet they groove in an otherworldly fashion. All of this provides reason enough to experience this unique full-blooded musician in his unbelievable live performances. Combine it with dancing and it proves to be an endless, ecstatic, and sweaty night.
