RICHMOND FONTAINE

“We Used to Think The Freeway Sounded Like A River”, Richmond Fontaine’s latest album finds the band at their peak both artistically and commercially. Since the bands last album “Thirteen Cities” (Feb 2007), singer songwriter Willy Vlautin, has been writing what he says is his strongest work yet with their most memorable tunes to date. The Independent recently called Willy “the Dylan of the dislocated” and the band has been firm critics favourites since the band broke in 2004. Richmond Fontaine are reaching further away from their Springsteen/Replacements comparisons to something completely their own on the new album. Featuring epic tunes like “Lonnie“ and “Two Alone” to beautiful folk numbers like “Ruby And Lou” the new album covers everything that is great about Fontaine. The album was produced by JD Foster (Calexico), at Jackpot studios in Portland. The core of the band is: Willy Vlautin (guitars, vocals), Sean Oldham (drums), Dave Harding (bass), Dan Eccles (guitar) and Paul Brainard (trumpet and pedal steel). Once again everything is written by singer and songwriter Willy Vlautin who has already released two fiction novels to great acclaim in the past two years, ‘The Motel Life’ and ‘Northline’.
In 2010 Vlautin will release his third novel and the band will tour in Germany presenting the album.
