Sage
Francis
Sage Francis is a man of many
faces: part provocational, part slyly unintellectual
intellectual, part skillful poet and an exceptionally
gifted entertainer who it is impossible to ignore. Background-wise:
the Rhode Island/ Florida hailing Slam Poet founded
the significant underground hip-hop project Non Prophets
together with Joe Beats. In 2000 he won the Scribble
Jam as a freestyle rapper. Collaborations with Slug,
Evedea, Daddy Kev and the Anticon collective ensued.
He is restless, even with himself. He never repeats
himself, even when he makes rare appearances in this
part of the world, it is always a pleasure to see him
live. He also falls out of the ranks, he's got something
to say against too many rappers, and he shies away from
accepted rigmaroles along the lines of "if I say
hip
you say hop". Sage Francis doesn't waste
our time rather we waste it gladly skipping back to
the last track again, to make sure we haven't missed
any of the words. Then we learn them by heart and they
become a part of us so we have them to hand in every
life situation. They form part of the healing, simple
and comforting truths that tide us over when faced with
insufficient, sluggish conceited existence.
