Smooth
When
listening to the music of Smooth, a Trio from Nantes in France, you have the strange
impression of finding an old friend, a road companion because their music draws
on our own imagination there where it moulds itself, each day, each rainy season,
with pleasure or ecstasy. The trio borrows and mixes sounds and rhythms from their
forefathers, displayed and put back together with inventiveness, jubilation, sensuality.
On their latest album "The Parade", to be released in Germany in
August, they set up their timeless songs like a series of short films. Surprising
sounds shine outwards in a Jacques Tati way dug up from vinyl collections of these
music lovers, exploring their instruments, unusual sound techniques. The result
is a mix of soul, pop, gold nuggets of Electro, touches of luminous brass band
sounds, Fellini like waltz rhythms or rock n' roll laments with a torn voice.
Well known French artist Dominique A also joined them and contributed his lyric
voice to one track. With their dandy's image of rock, elegance and reserve,
the three young men, 30 year old friends, David Darricarrère (vocals, guitar,
piano) Nicolas Berrivin (bass guitar, piano ) and Christophe Declercq (drums)
enjoy the present moment and cement their work, the hours in the studio, the years
on stage. Links
