We have bandWe Have Band

During a leaving do, a soon to be ex?employee says to their work colleague "I've started a concept band. Do you want to know the name?" "Yea," answers the colleague with a modicum of suspicion. "It's called 'We Have Band'" says the other one. "I thought 'That's the best band name I'd ever heard.' So of course I had to join them." And so in the spring of 2007 the unlikely trio of married couple DeDe, Thomas and mate Darren joined forces and that conceptual band came to life. Despite its origins as a lark, the trio soon realised that they were onto something much greater than they imagined. "We invited Darren over to our place for dinner," says Thomas "And then we all went upstairs and played around with a Korg drum machine. We put it through a shitty guitar pedal and our first song 'WHB' was born. And that's the version we've kept." "It's true," adds Darren "The first DER DER DER drum beat that starts that song is literally the first sound that the trio created." The DIY ethos of the band has meant that they've succeeded without being tied to a record label. "We didn't want to focus on getting a deal, we went out and did everything ourselves. We got on with existing as a band on our own terms," says Darren. From the humble beginnings of 'WHB', the trio wrote the rest of the 11 sonically diverse songs that make up their brilliantly eclectic album in between touring, over the course of a year. They chose producer/mixer Gareth Jones (Grizzly Bear, Depeche Mode, These New Puritans) partly for his history and partly for his baking skills! After touring they signed at Naiv where they'll release their album "WHB" on April 23rd 2010. The final product is much bigger than their singles and beloved Myspace songs suggest. Beat heavy, yes, but also warm, organic and much more complex, melody driven and beautiful than you would expect. "I remember we were in the car, driving back from Thomas' grandparents house," remembers Darren "We put on the 12 tracks in sequence and we just thought 'yea, we've done it ? we've actually made a really great album."
